Why You Should Participate in More Multiple Table Tournaments

Why You Should Participate in More Multiple Table Tournaments or MTTs Poker

I just gave up poker as a full-time job to focus on writing, coaching, and establishing my own poker strategies site. I have felt my passion for MTTs which had dimmed over the years due to the immense time commitment involved  resurface in a level I hadn’t felt in a long time.

Perhaps it was because I knew it didn’t matter whether I won or lost, or perhaps I had just had a long enough sabbatical to revive my enthusiasm for the poker tournament structure. Why you should participate in More Multiple Table Tournaments here is. Let’s dive in!

Why You Should Participate in More Multi Table Tournaments?

Why You Should Participate in More Multiple Table Tournaments

Regardless of the particular cause, after I thought about it, I realized I hadn’t loved MTTs in this way since I initially switched to Heads-up SNGs a few years ago. In fact, it quickly occurred to me that the way I felt now was reminiscent of a simpler, more joyful time.

Why you should participate in More Multiple Table Tournaments? When poker was about fun and competition rather than hourly and expectation. Winning a 500 dollars tournament felt just as good as winning a 5.000 dollars on tournament. When sitting at the computer for 12-hour sessions was a privilege rather than a requirement.

It is not only that, but I was only gambling one or two sessions each week, playing at a fourth of the set of tables I usually play, and having a great time! I quickly discovered that I was living it up as a fun-player again, and I was loving it!

As a result, in honor of my freshly rekindled passion for tournament poker, I wanted to give some of my initial thoughts on how the low-mid stakes MTT environment has changed over the last few years.

Reasons Why More Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs) are a Fantastic

Making the transition from poker tournaments to SNGs or cash games has several advantages, not the least of which is that the hours are longer and the volatility is lower. However, until recently, the most difficult component of transitioning for many previous MTT players was the loss of the power to transform your life in a single day. Maybe even a month. Here are some reasons why you should participate in More Multiple Table Tournaments?

1. Big Money, Big Edges

There are just a few venues in the world where you may compete for thousands of dollars against pure amateurs, and poker is at the top of that list. By participating in MTTs, you are not only giving yourself the potential to alter your life overnight, but when it comes down to it.

The only thing standing in your way may be a bunch of players that, from a skill-level standpoint, have no right being there at all.

This is not to claim that you will always beat your opponents, but picture Tiger Woods’ shock if he arrived at the Masters and discovered that half of his opponents had spent less time on the golf field than he had in kindergarten.

2. Less Stress, Less Tilt

Despite the fact that there are few worse sensations than getting a massive bad beat deep in a big event, MTTs continue to be the tilt shelter for poker players. Sure, it’s still quite easy to skip a few tournaments and lose a few buy-ins, but it’s far more difficult to follow bankroll management principles and dust off your whole roll in MTTs.
